Illinois Fingerprint Vendor List (IDFPR): What It Is and How to Verify Your Vendor
The Illinois fingerprint vendor list is the official register of every fingerprint vendor licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Under the Private Detective, Private Alarm, Private Security, Fingerprint Vendor, and Locksmith Act of 2004, anyone taking fingerprints for licensing or employment background checks in Illinois must hold a fingerprint vendor licence and appear on that list. You can view it at idfprapps.illinois.gov. Efficient Biometrics is on that list β IDFPR fingerprint vendor licence 262.000181, serving Naperville, DuPage County and the surrounding area, with a clean disciplinary record and a reputation built on years of five-star client feedback.
Our entry on the official IDFPR list
Search the IDFPR page for “BB INFOTECH INC D/B/A EFFICIENT BIOMETRICS” β not “Efficient Biometrics”. The state lists us under our legal corporate name, so we appear near the top of the list under B, not under E. This trips people up constantly.

A state licence says we're allowed to take your prints. Our reputation says what happens when we do.
π Call or Text 847-436-5222 Book an AppointmentLicence, then reputation
The IDFPR list tells you a vendor is permitted to fingerprint you. It doesn't tell you whether they'll get it right. Every vendor on that list cleared the same bar; what separates them afterwards is reputation β accuracy, turnaround, and whether they know your purpose code without being told.
Efficient Biometrics has built its reputation the slow way: client by client, print by print. Our IDFPR record shows no disciplinary action β a matter of public record you can confirm on the state list in about thirty seconds β and our clients have consistently rated us five stars. We'd rather you verify the first part yourself than take our word for the second.
What is the IDFPR fingerprint vendor list?
IDFPR licenses and regulates fingerprint vendors in Illinois, and publishes a public list of every active licensee. Each row shows the vendor's licence number, business name, phone number, address, whether the vendor performs card scan services, and whether the vendor has been disciplined. Licence numbers that begin with 262 are fingerprint vendor agency licences; numbers beginning with 249 are individual fingerprint vendor licences.
The list exists because fingerprinting involves handling your biometric data and transmitting it to the Illinois State Police and the FBI. Licensing means the vendor has been vetted, is accountable to a state regulator, and can be disciplined for mishandling submissions. It is the single fastest way to check that whoever is about to take your prints is legitimate.
How to verify an Illinois fingerprint vendor in four steps
- Open the official list. Go to the
IDFPR fingerprint vendor list.
Only trust the
illinois.govdomain β not a copy on a vendor's own website. - Search the vendor's legal name, not its brand name. Press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on a Mac) and search. Many vendors trade under a d/b/a, so search the corporate name or the phone number if the brand name returns nothing.
- Match the licence number and address. Confirm the licence number and street address match what the vendor advertises. A mismatch usually means the listing belongs to a different business.
- Check the disciplined column. An N means no disciplinary action on record. A Y is worth asking about before you hand over your identification.
If a vendor does not appear on the list at all, they are not licensed to fingerprint you for Illinois licensing or employment purposes, and the agency receiving your prints may reject the submission.
Why using a licensed vendor matters
- Your submission gets accepted. The Illinois State Police accept live scan submissions only from licensed vendors with a valid TCN. Prints taken by an unlicensed operator can be rejected outright.
- Your purpose code and ORI are routed correctly. A licensed vendor knows which purpose code and ORI your licence board requires, so your results reach the right agency the first time.
- Your biometric data is handled under state rules. Licensed vendors are bound by Illinois retention and disposal requirements β see our biometrics retention policy.
- Rejections cost you weeks. A rejected or misrouted submission means re-printing, re-paying agency fees, and delaying your licence.

I can't find Efficient Biometrics on the IDFPR list β why?

How do I check if a fingerprint vendor is licensed in Illinois?
Open the IDFPR fingerprint vendor list at idfprapps.illinois.gov, search for the
vendor's legal business name or phone number, and confirm the licence number,
address and that the disciplined column shows N. If the vendor is not on the
list, they are not licensed to fingerprint you in Illinois.
What does the licence number prefix mean?
A licence number starting with 262 is a fingerprint vendor agency licence issued
to a business. A number starting with 249 is an individual fingerprint vendor
licence issued to a person.

No. Any licensed Illinois fingerprint vendor can submit prints for any Illinois
licensing board, because submissions are transmitted electronically to the
Illinois State Police. Choose on availability, turnaround and convenience.
What does the “card scan” column on the IDFPR list mean?
Card scan indicates whether a vendor is set up to scan a fingerprint card you
already have and submit that image electronically. It is a different service
from taking live scan prints or rolling a new ink card. Efficient Biometrics
does not currently offer card scan β we take
live scan prints
directly and roll
FD-258 and FD-1164 ink cards,
which covers the large majority of Illinois and out-of-state requirements. If
you specifically need an existing card scanned, call us and we'll tell you
straight away.
How much does fingerprinting cost in Naperville?
Live scan fingerprinting generally runs about $30–$60 depending on the
submitting agency's fee, and FBI channeling is priced separately. Volume pricing
is available for employers. Call or text 847-436-5222 for an
exact quote for your licence type.
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are recommended and same-day slots are often available. Walk-ins
may be accommodated during business hours β call or text
847-436-5222 first to confirm.
How long does fingerprinting take?
The appointment itself takes roughly 8–10 minutes. Illinois State Police
results are typically processed within 24–48 hours; FBI channeling results
usually arrive within 1–48 hours.
Can a licensed vendor fingerprint me for an out-of-state licence?
Yes. For boards outside Illinois that require a physical card, we roll FD-258 or
FD-1164 cards you can mail to the requesting agency.
