What is a fingerprinting purpose code?
A purpose code is a short code the Illinois State Police use to identify the reason for a fingerprint-based background check — for example, a nursing license, a concealed carry license, or a school employment check. Your requesting agency tells you which one applies, and we enter it when we submit your prints.
What is an ORI number?
An ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) is the code for the agency authorized to receive your background-check results. It routes your results from the Illinois State Police directly to the right agency, such as IDFPR or the Illinois State Police Firearms Services Bureau.
