Saudi Arabia now accepts apostilles — no more embassy legalization for most documents
In short: Since 7 December 2022, Saudi Arabia is part of the Hague Apostille Convention, so most Illinois documents used in Saudi Arabia now need only an apostille from the Illinois Secretary of State — not the older Saudi embassy legalization. We apostille Illinois degrees and documents for Saudi work visas and licensing, by mail.
What changed in 2022
Embassy legalization was replaced by the apostille for public documents when the Convention entered into force for Saudi Arabia on 7 December 2022. Many employers' instructions and older guides online still describe the outdated legalization route — an apostille is what you need now.

How it works — a 100% remote process

- Send us your document. Mail or courier it to our Naperville office. If it needs to be notarized first, we can handle that too.
- We submit to the Illinois Secretary of State. Standard by mail, or we hand-carry it to the Chicago counter for expedited processing.
- We return it, tracked. Back to you or straight to your recipient, domestic or international, with status you can follow the whole way.
Some Saudi employers or ministries may still request additional attestation during the transition — we'll advise. Cost starts at $99–$129 per document plus the $2 state fee.
